For grown-ups
Type the name the way it is written, with a capital first letter.
Type your child's name (or any word, up to 12 letters) and tap Use it. The finished name stays at the top of the paper as a model, and your child makes it letter by letter on the lines underneath. The whole name climbs four steps: trace a wide path, trace the dots, write from start dots, then write it alone, with a star for each step. Tap Hide beside the name at the top to cover it, so your child writes it from memory (or set step 4 to start hidden); Show brings it back. When the whole name is done, the voice spells it out, letter by letter. On the first step the pen shows how each letter is made. Tap the eye to watch the current letter again, or a step under the paper to practice that step. Choose the handwriting your child's school uses: Italic letters have a gentle forward slant, the way Getty-Dubay italic handwriting teaches them; Ball-and-stick letters are upright print made of straight lines and circles, the way Zaner-Bloser manuscript teaches them, and the voice uses its words (pull down straight, circle back, slide across). Capitals reach the top line. Names are saved on this device, so you can switch between children.
